Over 600 Booked at Shivaji Park Police Station in Dadar After Protests
On Tuesday, Mumbai Police intensified security and registered FIRs against hundreds of people, including booking over 600 individuals at the Shivaji Park Police Station in Dadar, following protests and a planned demonstration by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The clampdown came as authorities tightened security across Dadar and other key parts of Mumbai to prevent further demonstrations linked to the ongoing agitation in Delhi.
The heightened police vigil follows a series of demonstrations in the city. Mumbai Police registered a total of eight FIRs across various police stations, naming more than 900 people as accused. The highest number of cases was recorded in Dadar at the Shivaji Park Police Station, where over 600 people were booked for holding demonstrations without permission and violating law and order.
In addition to the Shivaji Park cases, police registered FIRs at several other local stations, including Dadar, Mahim, Sion, Worli, Kalachowki, Bhoiwada, and Wadala TT.
The action follows a recent gathering near Chaityabhoomi in Dadar, where students and other protesters assembled to voice grievances. The demonstrators protested against the removal of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from his hunger strike in Delhi. They also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Police intervened at the Chaityabhoomi site and detained several protesters.
On Tuesday, security arrangements were visibly tightened at major locations including Azad Maidan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters. Heavy police presence, barricades, and riot control vehicles were deployed at these key spots to prevent any untoward incidents.
The local security measures were catalyzed by a planned protest by the CJP in support of the Jantar Mantar agitation in Delhi. Authorities remained on high alert following violence during the CJP's Parliament march in New Delhi on Monday, which has led to five FIRs in the capital and an ongoing investigation involving the analysis of CCTV and drone footage.
