Over 62 Lakh Passengers Register For MSRTC Smart Cards Ahead Of August Deadline

MUMBAI — More than 62.86 lakh passengers across Maharashtra have registered for the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation's (MSRTC) National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) as of June 30, 2026. This milestone comes ahead of the official rollout deadline set for August 1, 2026, when the smart cards will become mandatory for certain commuter groups.
According to Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik, out of the total registrations, more than 35.52 lakh cards have already been successfully activated by passengers.
The state government has made the NCMC smart card mandatory for several groups of travelers. Specifically, women, senior citizens, and beneficiaries under the Amrit Senior Citizen category must use the card to avail themselves of eligible travel concessions on MSRTC buses.
Starting August 1, 2026, these travel concessions will only be accessible to passengers who have registered for and activated their NCMC smart cards. The policy change is designed to streamline ticketing and concession management across the MSRTC bus network.
With the June 30, 2026 registration figures showing over 62.86 lakh registrants and over 35.52 lakh activations, a significant portion of eligible commuters across Maharashtra have already taken steps to comply with the new mandate.
The state administration and the MSRTC are overseeing the transition as the August deadline approaches. Passengers who fall under the concession categories, including women and senior citizens, are required to complete their registration and card activation to maintain their travel benefits on the state-run bus services.
