Over 650 Students Celebrate Deepotsav at Balak Mandir Sanstha School in Kalyan
Over 650 students from the primary and pre-primary sections participated in a Deepotsav celebration on Wednesday at the newly constructed building of Balak Mandir Sanstha’s school in Kalyan. Organised on the occasion of Deep Amavasya, the event aimed to introduce young children to cultural traditions and explain their significance.
The festivities were officially inaugurated by Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation corporator Shamal Mangesh Gaikar alongside Balak Mandir Sanstha office-bearer Ramesh Gore. To mark the occasion, students brought a variety of earthen, glass, and colourful diyas from their homes, setting up a special decorative display across the school premises.
During the programme, guests and organisers spoke about the cultural importance of lighting lamps in Hindu traditions. They noted that the light of a lamp symbolises the removal of darkness, and expressed hope that the festival would inspire students to pursue knowledge while spreading positivity among their families and wider society.
The event drew a large gathering of students and parents. Attending parents praised the creativity shown by the children in arranging and decorating the traditional lamps across the venue.
Kamini Patil conducted the programme, while Meenakshi Sarode and Parent-Teacher Association secretary Shashikant Gaware welcomed the invited guests and introduced them to the audience. Alka Jade, a teacher from the pre-primary section, delivered the vote of thanks at the conclusion of the event.
Several dignitaries and school representatives were present during the Deepotsav, including Vrushali Joshi and Rajendra Phadke. Primary school headmistress Kalpanatai Pawar and pre-primary school headmistress Anuja Pethe attended the function alongside teachers Pratibha More, Vidya Ghule, and Gauri Ranade, as well as other members of the school staff.
School organisers noted that the Deepotsav provided the children with an opportunity to engage in a collective traditional activity. They added that the illumination of the new school building enhanced the festive atmosphere, encouraging creativity, togetherness, and a shared respect for cultural values among the students.
