Palghar Collector warns election officers over slow voter roll revision in Vasai

The Palghar district administration has warned Booth Level Officers (BLOs) of strict action following slow progress and procedural lapses in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in localities including Vasai, Nalasopara, and Boisar. District Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar issued the warning after progress lagged, with only 27.65 per cent of Enumeration Form distribution completed across the district since the exercise began on June 30, 2026.

According to officials, heavy rainfall and flooding over the past 8 to 10 days significantly slowed down work in Vasai, Virar, and Nalasopara. Currently, constituency-wise progress stands at 39 per cent in Dahanu, 88 per cent in Vikramgad, 61 per cent in Palghar, 8 per cent in Boisar, 7 per cent in Vasai, and just 2 per cent in Nalasopara.

In addition to weather-related delays, the administration received complaints that some BLOs were failing to conduct mandatory door-to-door visits. Instead, some officers were reportedly holding public camps at schools and other venues to collect Enumeration Forms. Concerns were also raised that some officials were acting under the influence or instructions of political representatives.

In response, the district administration has issued fresh instructions to all Electoral Registration Officers, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, supervisors, and BLOs. The new directives mandate that all revision activities must strictly align with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The administration explicitly barred BLOs from participating in camps organized by political parties or performing duties under the pressure of elected representatives and political office-bearers. Instead, BLOs must conduct house-to-house visits to distribute and collect forms, verify details, and map voters to ensure no eligible citizen is excluded.

Collector Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar emphasized that any further negligence, delay, or dereliction of duty by the officials will invite immediate action under the directives of the ECI. The administration has appealed to citizens, political parties, and Booth Level Agents to cooperate to complete the revision process.
