Palghar Police Arrest Four and Seize Rs 14 Lakh Banned Tobacco on National Highway

The Palghar police arrested four individuals and seized banned tobacco products worth nearly Rs 14 lakh during a major crackdown along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway in Palghar. The operations, which took place on Friday, successfully busted an active tobacco smuggling racket operating in the region.
In addition to the arrests and the contraband seizure, the police impounded four vehicles used in the illegal transport. The total value of the seized vehicles is estimated to be Rs 24.5 lakh.
According to police officials, the crackdowns were initiated after authorities received specific intelligence inputs. The tips detailed the illegal transportation of banned tobacco products along the highway.
Acting on this information, the Palghar police planned and executed four separate operations at different points along the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway. These targeted interventions led to the interception of the smuggling vehicles and the subsequent arrest of the four suspects.
The sale and distribution of tobacco products, such as gutka, are completely banned in the state of Maharashtra. Despite the prohibition, smuggling rackets attempt to transport these illegal goods.
The police confiscated the tobacco items, valued at approximately Rs 14 lakh, as evidence. The four vehicles, valued at Rs 24.5 lakh, were taken into police custody as part of the ongoing investigation into the smuggling network.
