A coordination committee formed to expedite the construction of a grand memorial dedicated to social reformer Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj held its first meeting at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai, with Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir chairing the proceedings.
The committee was convened in response to a 50-year-old demand from Kolhapur residents settled in Mumbai seeking a dedicated memorial in the city for the former ruler and social reformer. During the meeting, the committee decided that Ahir would take the lead in advancing and pursuing the project.
Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil directed attending officials to identify a suitable location for the memorial and immediately write to the Mumbai civic commissioner regarding the formal proposal.
Several key ministers and legislators participated in the discussions at Vidhan Bhavan. Alongside Chandrakant Patil and Sachin Ahir, Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif attended the meeting, along with MLAs Vinay Kore, Ajay Choudhari, Sunil Shinde, Rajendra Yadravkar, and Chandradip Narake.
Representatives from the community, including Kolhapur District Federation Mumbai president Suryakant Kadakane and other office-bearers, were also present to discuss the long-pending demand.
Speaking after the meeting, Ahir welcomed the responsibility assigned to him. He stated that it was his good fortune to receive the opportunity to take the initiative for the memorial to Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj in Mumbai.
