Panvel Bus Stand Toilet Stays Locked Two Months After Setup

A newly installed public toilet for commuters and public transport staff at the Panvel bus stand remains locked two months after installation, despite assurances from the Panvel Municipal Corporation that it would be opened promptly. A ground check conducted on August 7, 2026, confirmed that the doors to the facility at the Panvel bus depot remained locked and inaccessible.

The amenity was intended to serve daily commuters and public transport staff operating at the Panvel facility. However, two months after the structure was put in place, users are still unable to access it. The issue was initially brought to light on June 27, 2026, prompting assurances from civic authorities.

Following the initial revelation on June 27, Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner Mangesh Chitale had assured that the toilet facility would be opened for use within two to three days. Despite that commitment from the PMC commissioner, the ground inspection on August 7 revealed that the toilet doors were still locked.

Clarifying the reason behind the extended delay, PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale stated that the facility could not be inaugurated earlier because it lacked an electricity connection. According to the commissioner, the absence of a power connection was the main obstacle preventing the facility from becoming operational.

Chitale confirmed that the required electricity connection has now been obtained for the premises. With power now connected, the newly installed toilet at the Panvel bus stand is expected to finally open for public use following an inauguration scheduled for today.
