Panvel Citizens Protest at Khanda Colony to Demand National Exam Reforms
On July 20, 2026, a peaceful protest was held at Constitution Square (Samvidhan Katta) in Sector 13, Khanda Colony, Panvel, to express solidarity with social activist Sonam Wangchuk. Organized by Samvidhan Premi Nagrik, the demonstration brought together local citizens, students, youth, parents, and social activists to demand reforms and transparency in the national examination system, specifically addressing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The gathering in Panvel was organized in response to Wangchuk’s hunger strike at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. Wangchuk's strike targets the alleged NEET question paper leak, widespread irregularities in the national examination system, and corruption within the education sector. Protesters in Khanda Colony extended their full support to his demands, urging authorities to take immediate action.
During the demonstration, participants emphasized the urgent need for greater transparency to protect the academic futures of students. They called on the government to introduce stricter measures to prevent question paper leaks and other examination-related irregularities that threaten student progress.
Social activist Ulka Mahajan addressed the gathered crowd, raising sharp criticisms against the Central government. Mahajan alleged that democratic values are being weakened across the nation through hunger, fear, misinformation, discrimination, dependence, and corruption.
The protest saw active participation from several prominent social and student organizations. Among those present were representatives from the Maharashtra Andhashraddha Nirmoolan Samiti, the All India Students' Federation (AISF), and the Satyashodhak Vidyarthi Parishad. Constitution campaigners and members of the Mahiti Adhikar Mahasangh also joined the local citizens and parents at the venue.
The event concluded with the participants resolving to sustain their advocacy efforts through peaceful, constitutional, and democratic means. The organizers announced that they would compile their demands and submit a formal memorandum regarding the national examination system to the President of India.
