Panvel Civic Body Clears LED Streetlight Upgrades, Garden Repairs Across Nodes
The Panvel Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) standing committee approved a series of civic infrastructure proposals on Tuesday, covering major streetlighting upgrades across Kharghar, Kalamboli, Taloja, and the Sion-Panvel Highway, along with repairs to public gardens, playgrounds, and municipal health facilities in Panvel.
The meeting was held at the PMC headquarters on September 1 and was chaired by standing committee chairman Baban Mukadam. Senior civic officials in attendance included Additional Commissioner-2 Maheshkumar Meghmale, Secretary Nanasaheb Kamthe, and Chief Medical Health Officer Dr Anand Gosavi.
A significant focus of the meeting was the modernisation of streetlighting infrastructure. The committee cleared additional expenditure for the improvement and renovation of streetlights and electrical systems along the Sion-Panvel Highway stretch between CBD Junction and Kalamboli Junction, including a three-year contract for operation, maintenance, and repair works.
In CIDCO-developed nodes, conventional streetlights will be replaced with LED fixtures. The committee approved additional expenditure to install LED lights across Taloja Phase-I, Taloja Phase-II, and Navade, alongside a three-year mandate for daily operation, maintenance, and repairs. Similar approvals were granted for the Kharghar and Kalamboli nodes, where conventional streetlights will be upgraded to LED units alongside three years of maintenance.
“The approvals are aimed at ensuring that essential civic infrastructure is maintained properly and that residents get better facilities. Upgrading conventional streetlights to LED systems will also help improve illumination and operational efficiency,” said Mukadam.
Beyond illumination, the standing committee cleared funds for the repair and maintenance of public gardens, playgrounds, and recreational spaces across the civic limits. The committee also granted a two-year extension on the lease period for rented premises housing Urban Health and Wellness Centres and homeless shelter facilities.
Additionally, the committee approved the lowest tender for the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and renovation of the central air-conditioning system at the PMC-owned Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Natyagruha over a three-year term. Another proposal was cleared for three-year maintenance, repair, and electrical renovation across various PMC-owned administrative buildings and offices.
