Panvel RTO Launches Road Safety App for Ganeshotsav Highway Commuters
The Regional Transport Office in Panvel has launched a mobile application to alert motorists about accident-prone stretches and road hazards ahead of the anticipated traffic surge on key highways during Ganeshotsav. The measure comes as large volumes of vehicles prepare to head towards the Konkan belt along the Mumbai-Pune, Mumbai-Goa and related regional corridors.
The mobile application, named 'Black Spot RTO Panvel', offers advance information regarding identified accident black spots, dangerous curves and hazardous stretches falling under the jurisdiction of the Panvel RTO. According to transport officials, the system is designed to alert motorists as they approach high-risk locations, giving them adequate time to reduce speed and exercise caution.
The application is available free of cost on both Android and iOS platforms. The Panvel RTO has appealed to Ganesh devotees travelling to their native places in Konkan, as well as other motorists, to download the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store before setting out on their journeys. Transport authorities noted that the initiative is critical because thousands of vehicles travel towards Konkan during the festival period, resulting in intense traffic volumes and additional strain on vulnerable road sections.
Alongside the app rollout, the RTO issued a road safety advisory directing motorists to strictly follow speed limits and avoid dangerous overtaking. All occupants of four-wheelers have been advised to wear seat belts, while two-wheeler riders must wear helmets at all times during transit.
Motorists were also cautioned against driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Transport authorities further advised drivers experiencing fatigue or drowsiness to pull over at safe spots, rest sufficiently, and resume driving only when fully alert. In its festive safety appeal to devotees and commuters, the Panvel RTO stated: "Drive safely to double the joy of welcoming Bappa and reach home safely with your family."
