Passengers Pull Differently-Abled Man to Safety at Ambernath Railway Station
A differently-abled man using a walker was helped onto a platform by fellow commuters after attempting to cross the railway tracks at Ambernath railway station, moments before a local train pulled in.
Video footage of the incident captured the man descending from one platform and making his way across two railway tracks with the aid of his walker. As he carefully moved across the tracks toward the opposite side, commuters waiting at the station observed his struggle and stepped forward to intervene.
As the man attempted to reach safety, two to three passengers rushed to the edge of the platform and reached down to pull him up. The rescue was completed just as an approaching local train became visible heading toward the platform, averting a potentially catastrophic collision.
The circumstances that led the man to cross the tracks on foot rather than using station infrastructure were not immediately clear. The incident has since circulated widely on social media platforms, sparking discussions regarding passenger safety and the accessibility of local railway infrastructure.
Following the circulation of the video, several social media users pointed out the lack of basic accessibility facilities for differently-abled passengers at Ambernath railway station. Commuters noted that the station lacks escalators and lifts, creating significant mobility hurdles for individuals with disabilities, particularly during peak travel hours.
The episode has renewed attention on the hazards of crossing railway lines. Railway authorities regularly issue advisories urging passengers to use designated foot overbridges, subways, and other authorised pathways rather than walking across active tracks.
Unauthorised track crossing is classified as trespassing under Section 147 of the Railways Act, 1989. Under the law, anyone convicted of trespassing on railway property or entering prohibited zones faces a fine of up to Rs 1,000, imprisonment for up to six months, or both.
