Patalganga River Floods Dolghar Village in Panvel Rural Stranding 1,450 Residents

The 150-year-old fishing village of Dolghar, located in the Panvel Rural area of Raigad district, has been completely cut off from the outside world after the Patalganga River overflowed its banks. For four days leading up to July 9, 2026, the rising floodwaters have isolated the community, which is situated approximately 60 kilometres from Mumbai.

The flooding has severely impacted the local population, leaving nearly 1,450 residents stranded. These individuals, belonging to around 350 households in the historic fishing village, have been forced to cope with the sudden loss of basic amenities, transport, and communication.

According to reports, approximately 60 percent of the village of Dolghar has been inundated by the floodwaters from the overflowing Patalganga River. This extensive flooding has disrupted the local power supply, leaving the entire village without electricity for the duration of the four-day isolation.

In addition to the power outage, all transport links to and from Dolghar have been completely severed by the rising waters. Mobile phone connectivity has also been disrupted, making it extremely difficult for the stranded residents to communicate with the outside world or contact emergency services.

To manage the crisis, the residents of the 150-year-old village have had to rely on alternative means of survival. A community kitchen has been set up to provide food for the affected families who are otherwise unable to cook or access markets. For medical emergencies and other urgent travel needs, the villagers are entirely dependent on boats to navigate the deep water that now covers the majority of the settlement.

With 60 percent of the village submerged, the 350 households continue to navigate these challenging conditions as they remain cut off from the surrounding Raigad district.
