Pedestrian killed and 10 injured in Mankhurd flyover BEST bus crash

A 62-year-old pedestrian was killed and 10 passengers were injured after a BEST bus crashed into a bridge barricade on the Mankhurd flyover in Mumbai. The fatal accident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on July 20, 2026, on the busy flyover.

The vehicle involved in the crash was BEST Bus No. 8092, which was operating on Route 501. The route runs between Kurla East and Airoli. The bus service was operated by M/s Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt Ltd, a private operator running the route.

The collision took place when the bus crashed directly into a bridge barricade on the Mankhurd flyover. The impact of the crash resulted in the death of an unnamed 62-year-old pedestrian who was at the scene. In addition to the fatality, 10 passengers on board the bus sustained injuries.

Among those injured was 42-year-old labourer Sumangal Maity. Maity had just finished working a night shift and was travelling on the bus to return home to sleep. Instead of reaching his home, Maity was injured in the crash, suffering a shoulder injury. He was subsequently admitted to Shatabdi Hospital, where he recounted the terrifying moments of the accident.

Following the crash, Mumbai Deputy Mayor Sanjay Ghadi and BEST Chairperson Trushna Vishwasrao visited Shatabdi Hospital. The two officials met with the injured passengers who had been admitted to the medical facility to check on their recovery and condition.

The incident disrupted traffic on the Mankhurd flyover as emergency services responded to the crash. The operator, M/s Mateshwari Urban Transport Solutions Pvt Ltd, and BEST have not released further details regarding the cause of the collision. The injured passengers remain under observation at the hospital.
