Pedestrian stabs 35-year-old Navin Prasanna outside Mahim railway station

A 35-year-old man was stabbed multiple times by an unidentified pedestrian outside the Mahim railway station on Thursday night following a minor altercation on a footpath. The incident occurred at approximately 10:15 pm after an accidental collision between the two men.

The victim, identified as Navin Prasanna, is a resident of Pitamber Lane in Mahim West. He was returning home from his workplace in Lower Parel, where he works as an office boy for an advertising, entertainment, and technology company.

According to the Mahim Police, Prasanna accidentally bumped into the unidentified pedestrian while walking on the footpath after exiting the railway station. The collision triggered an argument when the pedestrian claimed that his mobile phone fell and broke due to the impact. The man then demanded financial compensation from Prasanna for the damaged phone.

When Prasanna refused to pay the demanded money, the pedestrian pulled out a knife and repeatedly attacked him. The assailant stabbed Prasanna multiple times in the abdomen before fleeing the scene.

Prasanna sustained severe abdominal injuries and collapsed on the footpath. Local residents rushed him to Sion Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The victim's brother, Sachin Prasanna, stated that the victim remained unconscious for nearly 15 hours after the attack due to the severity of his injuries.

The Mahim Police have registered a criminal case against the unidentified suspect. The charges filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, include attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace.

Police officials suspect that the attacker may have used the Mumbai suburban railway network to escape shortly after the stabbing. Investigators stated that, prima facie, the suspect appears to be a drug addict. Efforts are currently underway by the local police to trace and arrest the accused.
