PMC Clears Encroachments and Handcarts in Panvel Market Yard
The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) carried out an anti-encroachment drive against unauthorised businesses and handcart vendors operating in the Market Yard area on Monday. The action was taken to clear obstructions affecting pedestrian access and vehicular traffic in the busy commercial zone.
The drive was executed by the civic body's Ward Committee ‘D’ following directions issued by Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale. According to the civic administration, unauthorised commercial operations and vendors had encroached upon public space, leading to routine traffic bottlenecks and safety concerns for commuters and shoppers.
During the enforcement operation, civic officials seized seven handcarts alongside various other materials. An additional five handcarts were dismantled and removed from the Market Yard premises by the enforcement team.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer Dr Rupali Mane and was led on the ground by Acting Superintendent Rajesh Dongre. The team comprised personnel from the anti-encroachment squad, ward office staff, Raigad security personnel, and members of the Maharashtra State Security Force (MSF).
The PMC noted that unauthorised stalls and handcarts in and around the Market Yard have consistently affected the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians. Civic authorities stated that such enforcement drives would continue to be conducted to keep public spaces accessible and prevent traffic-related issues in the area.
