PMC Evacuates 435 Panvel Residents to Relief Camps Amid Heavy Rainfall

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) evacuated 435 residents from low-lying areas, including Patel Mohalla, Kacchi Mohalla, HOC Colony, and Kharghar, to temporary relief camps as heavy rainfall battered the region for a fifth consecutive day.
The civic administration carried out the largest relocations from the Bharat Nagar slum in Patel Mohalla and Kacchi Mohalla. A total of 149 residents from these areas were accommodated at a local Urdu school, while another 211 residents were shifted to Koliwada School. In addition, 75 residents from the Adivasi Wadi in HOC Colony were relocated to the civic sports complex.
At the temporary shelters, the displaced residents are being provided with food, drinking water, medical assistance, and other essential facilities. Health teams, led by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi, conducted medical examinations of the evacuees. Civic officials are monitoring the shelters to ensure adequate arrangements are maintained.
To address the flooding, the PMC intensified dewatering operations across waterlogged areas. Workers utilized jetting machines and JCB excavators to clear blocked drains. PMC Commissioner Mangesh Chitale directed all ward offices to remain on round-the-clock alert as weather forecasts indicate continued rainfall.
As a precautionary safety measure, the civic body closed the road leading to the Driving Range and Pandavkada in Kharghar to the public. Senior civic officials inspected the site to assess safety concerns.
Mayor Nitin Patil visited several waterlogged locations and relief camps on Sunday. He directed officials to expedite drainage work and ensure that displaced residents receive all necessary assistance. Mayor Patil also appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing heavy rain and to follow official advisories.
Commissioner Chitale reviewed the flood situation through an online meeting with officials from all four ward offices to assess waterlogged locations, evacuation efforts, and relief measures. The PMC stated that emergency teams and machinery will remain deployed until the situation normalizes.
