PMC Hosts Lok Kalyan Mela in Kamothe to Support Street Vendors

The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) organised a Lok Kalyan Mela, also known as a Public Welfare Camp, at the Suvarna Durg Kamothe ward office in Panvel on July 2, 2026. The event was held to promote the Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor's AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi) scheme, encourage digital transactions, and expand the reach of government support among local street vendors.

Organised under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), the initiative was executed following the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale. The primary objectives of the camp were to enrol new street vendors, facilitate their access to financial assistance, and raise awareness about various government welfare schemes.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Paradkar and attended by Assistant Commissioner Dr Rupali Mane. District Lead Bank Manager Vijay Kulkarni and Food Safety Officer Sachin Adhav participated as key resource persons to educate the attendees.

Addressing the gathered vendors, Vijay Kulkarni explained the details of various banking schemes and urged eligible street vendors to take advantage of the PM SVANidhi scheme. He assured the participants of the banking sector's full support in facilitating loans and provided guidance on how to adopt digital payment systems for their daily business transactions.

Food Safety Officer Sachin Adhav focused on health and hygiene, educating the vendors on food safety standards. He stressed that all street vendors selling food products must obtain the mandatory food licence. Adhav also provided step-by-step guidance on the licensing process and explained the specific hygiene and safety measures that vendors must follow while preparing and selling food.

During the inaugural session of the camp, Manager Vinaya Mhatre presented an overview of the work undertaken by the Panvel Municipal Corporation under the PM SVANidhi scheme so far.

The camp successfully registered new applications under the welfare scheme and provided detailed information on credit card facilities available to the beneficiaries. Representatives from the Bank of India's Kamothe and Kalamboli branches, as well as the Bank of Maharashtra's Kamothe branch, attended the event alongside officials and staff of the DAY-NULM mission. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Manager Navnath Thorat.
