Pointsman Saves Passenger Who Fell Under CSMT-Pune Express at Karjat
A passenger had a close shave at Karjat railway station after attempting to board a moving train and falling directly onto the tracks at Platform No. 1. The incident occurred as the passenger tried to enter the C-1 coach of Train No. 12123 CSMT-Pune Express, losing balance and slipping dangerously between the moving carriage and the platform edge.
The life-saving rescue was initiated by railway Pointsman Sourabh Kumar Singh, who was walking back to his office after completing the task of attaching a banker engine to the express train. Spotting the passenger in immediate danger on the track, Singh promptly displayed a red signal to the Train Manager. Taking cue from the emergency signal, the Train Manager immediately applied the brakes and brought the train to a complete stop.
Once the train stopped, a rescue effort unfolded on the platform. Railway personnel, an official from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and surrounding passengers immediately rushed to the location where the man had fallen. Together, the team safely pulled the passenger out from beneath the train and onto the platform. Despite the severity of the fall, the passenger survived with no major injuries and was reported to be safe.
The dramatic incident and subsequent rescue operation were captured on camera and later shared on social media by the official X account of the Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division, Central Railway. The released video contains two separate pieces of footage documenting the event in detail.
The first segment of the video shows CCTV visuals capturing the exact moment the passenger lost his footing and fell between the moving train and the platform. The footage reflects the sudden panic among bystanders at the station as Pointsman Singh rushed to alert the Train Manager. The second segment documents the rescue operation itself, showing RPF personnel, railway workers, and fellow commuters physically pulling the individual away from the tracks to safety.
Following the event, Central Railway issued an official safety appeal to all rail passengers, reiterating the hazards of boarding or alighting from moving carriages and asking commuters to prioritize their safety while traveling. "Passengers are requested not to board/deboard the running train," the railway authorities stated.
