Police Apprehend 27, Seize Rs 17.84 Lakh in Latur Gambling Raids
Police apprehended 27 persons and seized cash, mobile phones, and vehicles with a combined value of Rs 17.84 lakh during raids at three separate locations in Maharashtra's Latur district. The operations were conducted across the Shivajinagar police station limits, the New Renapur Naka area in Vivekanand Chowk, and the Ahmedpur police station area as part of an enforcement drive against illegal betting and gambling activities.
A special team from the Nanded police range executed the first raid on Tuesday after targeting a premises situated near a restaurant within the limits of the Shivajinagar police station. Upon inspecting the site, the team discovered an active matka betting operation in progress. Officers detained six persons at the scene and seized cash amounting to Rs 12,610 along with three mobile phones valued at Rs 19,000, according to details shared in an official police release on Wednesday.
The law enforcement team conducted another targeted raid at a premises located near the New Renapur Naka area within the Vivekanand Chowk police station limits. During this operation, police detained nine individuals who were allegedly involved in a betting operation. The team recovered Rs 19,350 in cash and seized five mobile phones valued at Rs 42,000 from the location.
A third raid took place at a farm situated within the Ahmedpur police station area, where officers apprehended 12 persons allegedly participating in illegal gambling. During the search, police seized Rs 37,320 in cash, 12 mobile phones, two cars, and five motorcycles. The total value of the vehicles and property seized from the Ahmedpur farm raid was reported at Rs 16.91 lakh.
Following the raids across the three police station limits in Latur district, authorities also launched a dedicated 'Khabar' helpline. The new helpline service is intended to enable members of the public to report ongoing illegal businesses, gambling activities, and other unlawful operations directly to the police.
