Police Arrest Man for Trespassing into Juhu Airport Restricted Area
The Santacruz police in Mumbai have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly trespassing into a highly restricted operational area at Pawan Hans, commonly known as Juhu airport, on August 29.
The arrested individual has been identified as Chandrapal Dhurve, a resident of Dindori district in Madhya Pradesh. According to police sources, Dhurve was in an intoxicated state when he entered the airport premises. During initial questioning, he informed investigators that he gained access by climbing over a closed, unmanned gate.
The security breach came to light around 12:15 pm when Maharashtra Security Force guards Pramod Sarvarkar, 52, and Somnath Khedkar spotted Dhurve walking along an internal road on the premises. He was seen heading toward the operational base and training ecosystem of the Bombay Flying Club.
Upon spotting the unauthorised person inside the high-security zone, the guards promptly alerted chief security guard Sagar Halwankar. The security personnel tracked the intruder and intercepted him near critical airport infrastructure.
In his formal complaint to the police, Sarvarkar stated that he and Halwankar went to the Air Traffic Control tower area and apprehended the trespasser. They informed their Senior Security Officer, identified as Nashikkar, who escorted Dhurve to the facility's main gate for questioning. When security officials asked Dhurve why he had entered the airport grounds, he did not provide any explanation.
Following the confrontation, security officials handed Dhurve over to the Santacruz police station for further legal proceedings. The police placed him under arrest and booked him under Section 329(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal trespass.
Police officials stated that an active investigation is underway to determine the precise circumstances surrounding the breach. Authorities are verifying Dhurve's background, checking his antecedents, and attempting to establish the purpose of his visit to Mumbai.
