The Kashimira Police have registered a cyber defamation case against an unidentified mobile user for allegedly circulating fake photographs and obscene messages targeting a senior civic official in Mira Road, Mira-Bhayandar.

The official complaint was filed by Bharat Sonawane, who serves as the Assistant Commissioner and Head of Department of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. Sonawane approached the Kashimira Police Station after discovering that his photograph had been edited and shared alongside objectionable content on various social media platforms.

According to the police report, the unidentified accused allegedly manipulated Sonawane's photograph and circulated it with obscene messages. The circulation of these materials has caused widespread anger and concern among municipal officials and employees of the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation.

Civic officials have expressed deep concerns regarding the misuse of social media platforms to spread false information and damage the reputations of public servants. The complaint filed by Sonawane notes that this is not an isolated event. Similar attempts were allegedly made earlier to target other municipal officers within the corporation by spreading fake photos and objectionable messages on social media.

Following these repeated incidents, municipal officials have demanded that the police conduct a detailed investigation and take strict action against the accused.

The Kashimira Police have registered the case under defamation-related provisions, cyber-related offences, and laws governing the circulation of obscene content through electronic media.

Police officials confirmed that an active investigation is currently underway to identify the individual behind the fake social media account and the specific mobile number used to circulate the defamatory messages. The police stated that further legal action will be taken immediately after the accused is traced.
