Police recover chopped body from Kalyan East flat after woman confesses in voice note

The Manpada police on Monday recovered the highly decomposed, chopped body of a 37-year-old man from a rented apartment in Neelkanth Society on Malang Road in Kalyan East, Dombivli. The discovery was made after the deceased's girlfriend allegedly sent a voice message to the flat owner confessing to the murder before fleeing to Kolkata.

The deceased was identified as Hamidilla Islam. The accused, identified as Hasiba or Hasina, aged between 35 and 40 years, had been living with Islam in the rented apartment for approximately two months. Both individuals were originally from West Bengal.

The flat owner, Ajay Patil, received a voice note from Hasina and alerted the local authorities. Upon breaking open the door of the apartment, police officers found Islam's body chopped into several pieces and stuffed inside a gunny bag in the bathroom. The bag had been left under a running tap.

In her voice message to Patil, Hasina claimed she acted in self-defense. She alleged that Islam had brought her from Pune to Kalyan about two months ago with the intention of selling her into a prostitution racket. According to her message, when Islam failed to sell her, he planned to kill her. Fearing for her life, she killed him, chopped his body to avoid detection, and left it under the running tap to accelerate its decomposition.

Residents of Neelkanth Society had reported noticing a foul smell in the building for several days prior to the discovery but were unable to pinpoint its source. The police have sent Islam's body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Sandipan Shinde, senior inspector of the Manpada police station, stated that the murder likely took place five to six days before the body was recovered. He added that the police are also investigating whether the flat was rented out without the mandatory police tenant verification. A police team has been dispatched to Kolkata to trace and arrest Hasina.
