Police seized 73 grams of cocaine valued at Rs 38 lakh and arrested a Nigerian national during a targeted combing operation in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara East on Saturday night.
The operation was conducted under the supervision and leadership of Zone II Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Virkar. As part of the coordinated drive, police formed 10 separate teams to execute simultaneous searches across various locations in the locality, with a focus on residences associated with suspected drug peddlers.
During the search operation, police teams inspected a building in Pragati Nagar and found 73 grams of cocaine in the possession of a Nigerian national residing in Basera building. The contraband was seized on the spot, and the accused was taken into custody.
The individual has been formally arrested and booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police stated that an active investigation is underway to identify the origin and source of the seized cocaine, as well as the suspect's connections to other associates within the wider drug distribution network.
According to officials, the combing operation was undertaken as part of sustained law enforcement efforts to tackle drug-related activities in the area.
