Police Step Up Security in Lalbaug and Chinchpokli for Chintamani Ganpati Arrival

The Mumbai Police have made elaborate security arrangements across the Lalbaug and Chinchpokli neighbourhoods ahead of the arrival ceremony of Chinchpokli’s Chintamani Ganpati, turning the locality into a heavily secured zone. The extensive security measures were put into effect on Friday in anticipation of the procession scheduled for Saturday.

Several Ganpati mandals across Mumbai are scheduled to bring their idols on Saturday. As preparations for the grand arrival of Chinchpokli’s Chintamani Ganpati commenced, security was tightened throughout Chinchpokli, with a large number of police vehicles and personnel deployed near the Kalachowki signal area.

Between 800 and 1,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed across the area during the arrival ceremony. In addition to the Mumbai Police, personnel from the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) will be stationed on the ground to maintain law and order.

Security has been reinforced following recent tension in the neighbouring Parel area. Police authorities are maintaining special vigilance to prevent any untoward incidents during the gathering. With thousands of devotees expected to assemble along the route, officials have initiated several precautionary measures to ensure the smooth movement of the public.

As part of the crowd-management infrastructure, iron barricades have been installed along the road dividers extending from Lalbaug and Kalachowki towards the Parel Workshop. Green curtains have also been affixed over the barricades along these stretches as part of the security arrangements.
