Powai Police Arrest Cleaner After Finding Stolen Gold Behind Washroom Mirror

The Powai police have arrested a 32-year-old cleaner, Anu Vicky Bohot, after solving a housebreaking case involving stolen gold jewellery from a residence at Tulip Park Housing Society on Marol-Maroshi Road in Andheri East. The breakthrough came after police made an unusual discovery, finding stolen gold hidden behind a mirror in the men’s washroom of a housing society.
The crime took place on August 4 between 12:00 pm and 1:30 pm. The complainant, 70-year-old retired teacher Jyoti Jimmy Khambata, approached the Powai police after discovering that her home had been broken into and her gold jewellery was missing.
Following the complaint, officers registered a case under Sections 305(a) and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and launched a probe into the break-in.
Investigating officers identified Bohot, a Powai resident who works as a cleaner, as the suspect. She was alleged to have broken into Khambata's home and fled with gold jewellery worth around Rs 3.22 lakh.
During the course of the investigation, the police team recovered jewellery worth approximately Rs 3.57 lakh from behind the washroom mirror. According to the police, Bohot does not have a previous criminal record.
