Pratitee Bordoloi Takes Sole Lead at Asian Junior Girls Chess in Mumbai

Top seed WFM Pratitee Bordoloi moved into the sole lead of the Asian Junior Girls Classical Chess Championship after defeating WCM Aadya Gowda in the seventh round at the ITC Maratha Sheraton in Mumbai on Monday.

The victory took Bordoloi's tally to 6 points from seven rounds, establishing a half-point advantage over her closest challengers in the title race.

WCM Shohradova Leyla of Turkmenistan, who had shared the lead prior to the round, was held to a draw by Shivamshika G and slipped into second place with 5.5 points. FM Prishita Gupta joined Leyla in the chasing pack on 5.5 points after securing a win against WFM Nivedita V C. In another match, Kazakhstan's WFM Mariya Kholyavko and WCM Dakshita Kumawat played out a draw to advance to 5 points each.

In the Open Championship, top seed GM-elect Mayank Chakraborty maintained his position atop the standings following seven rounds of play. Mayank drew his top-board encounter against IM Vignesh Advaith Vemula to reach 6 points, preserving a half-point lead over the rest of the field.

Elsewhere in the open section, IM Artem Pingin of Russia was held to a draw by Daksh Goyal. FM Sharnarthi Viresh defeated FM Amanmuhammet Hommadov of Turkmenistan to move to 5.5 points. Vignesh, Pingin, and Viresh remain among the prime contenders as the championship moves into its final phase.
