Probe Ordered After Gloves, Paper Found in Woman's Abdomen at Beed Hospital

Health authorities have launched an investigation after medical gloves and paper were allegedly left inside the abdomen of a 19-year-old woman following a Caesarean section at the Beed District Hospital in Maharashtra.

Taking serious cognisance of the alleged negligence, Civil Surgeon Dr Satishkumar Solanke issued a show-cause notice to the medical officer who performed the surgery. The entire operation theatre team present during the procedure is also under scrutiny over the lapse.

According to officials, the patient, Sandhya Suraj Gaikwad of Wadwani village, was admitted to the Beed District Hospital for delivery on the morning of August 1. Doctors performed a C-section on her later that evening.

Following the surgery, the patient developed excruciating abdominal pain along with post-operative complications. Concerned by her deteriorating condition, her family took her to a private medical facility, where diagnostic scans revealed foreign objects lodged inside her abdomen.

The woman's relatives subsequently lodged an official complaint with the district hospital administration on Tuesday.

After the issue was reported to the Deputy Director of Health Services for the Latur Circle, a special inquiry committee was constituted. The probe panel arrived at the Beed District Hospital on Wednesday afternoon to begin an investigation into the incident.

The show-cause notice issued by the administration seeks an explanation from the operating doctor as to why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them.
