Pune Court Sentences Bhimrao Kamble to Death for Nasrapur Child Sexual Assault

The Pune Sessions Court has sentenced Bhimrao Kamble to death for the sexual assault of a three-year-old girl in Nasrapur. Special Judge S. R. Salunkhe delivered the landmark verdict after finding Kamble guilty of the crime and awarding him capital punishment.
The court rejected a plea from the accused's lawyer, who had argued for leniency and sought a sentence of life imprisonment instead of the death penalty. Special Judge Salunkhe dismissed the argument, finalizing the death sentence for the brutal assault.
The legal proceedings at the Pune Sessions Court were held under tight security arrangements. A large police force was deployed across the court premises because the case had attracted significant public attention and triggered widespread outrage across the region. Members of the three-year-old victim’s family were also present inside the courtroom to witness the delivery of the verdict.
On Monday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde reacted to the court's decision, welcoming the death sentence for Kamble. Speaking to reporters, Shinde expressed his gratitude to the court and the legal system for the ruling.
"The court has sentenced the accused to death, so I thank the court," Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said. "I had already said that he has no right to live; he should only be hanged, and therefore I thank everyone."
Shinde further characterized the court's ruling as a landmark decision that would serve as a strong deterrent. "No one will have the courage to commit such an incident again," he stated.
According to the Deputy Chief Minister, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had been closely monitoring the development of the case. Shinde noted that the Chief Minister had provided all the necessary support and assistance to the investigating team to ensure a thorough probe.
The case stems from the brutal sexual assault of the minor girl by Kamble in Nasrapur. The incident had previously led to intense public anger, with numerous citizens demanding justice and capital punishment for the accused.
