Pune Man Arrested For Sharing Morphed Image Of Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan
The Jalgaon Cyber Police on Sunday arrested a 34-year-old man from Indapur in Pune district for allegedly creating and circulating an objectionable, morphed image of Maharashtra Minister Girish Mahajan on Facebook.
The accused, who has been identified as Bharat Balaji Mhaske, allegedly created an objectionable image of the minister, Girish Mahajan, with a young woman. After creating the image, the accused circulated it online, causing the post to go viral.
Following the arrest of the accused in Indapur, Pune district, the police team seized the mobile phone that was allegedly used in the incident. The police will use the seized phone for further investigation into the matter. During the subsequent interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to committing the crime.
The entire matter came to light after it was noticed by Jalgaon Corporator Arvind Bhagwan Deshmukh. Upon discovering the viral post, Deshmukh asked the cyber police team to identify the accused person and conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to reports, the cryptic post shared by the accused on Facebook has already been deleted through the Sahyog portal. Cyber police officials further stated that the team has also permanently deleted the Facebook account belonging to the accused, which allegedly had nearly 6,000 followers.
The accused, Mhaske, has been booked on charges of defamation. A case has been registered against him under Sections 356 and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Furthermore, he has been charged under Sections 66(C) and 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
