PWD Minister Orders Expedited Mumbai-Goa Highway Works Ahead of Ganeshotsav
Maharashtra Public Works Minister Shivendra Raje Bhosale has directed officials to accelerate pending construction works on the Mumbai-Goa Highway to ensure smooth travel for millions of devotees travelling to the Konkan region from Thane, Mumbai, Pune, and other parts of the state ahead of Ganeshotsav.
Speaking at a review meeting held at Mantralaya on Friday, Bhosale stated that merely reviewing progress would not be enough to facilitate hassle-free movement for travellers. He directed that visible progress must be achieved on the flyovers at Kolad, Sangameshwar, Nivli, and Lanja by August 31. The minister noted that all departments must coordinate closely in line with directions from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to prevent delays.
Regarding the stalled Nagothane flyover, Bhosale stated that technical assistance is being sought from IIT. Repair work on the structure will begin immediately upon receipt of the technical report. In the meantime, officials were ordered to repair the highway on both sides below the flyover.
Progress on the Mangaon bypass is also being expedited. A stretch of approximately 5.5 kilometres of the 7.5-kilometre bypass is planned to be opened for one-way traffic. Girder installation on the railway bridge is scheduled to start on August 20, after which the remaining two-kilometre stretch will also open to one-way traffic to ease congestion.
Meanwhile, the Chiplun flyover has reached its final stage of construction following the completion of girder installation. Embankment work near the Sub-Divisional Office is progressing rapidly, and officials are working to open the flyover to traffic before Ganeshotsav, provided there is a sufficient break in the rains.
Bhosale emphasised that priority is being given to the Mumbai-Goa Highway and instructed all concerned departments and agencies to complete works within stipulated deadlines to ensure a safer, faster, and congestion-free journey for Ganeshotsav travellers.
