PWD Orders Smooth Traffic on Mumbai-Goa Highway for Ganeshotsav
The Maharashtra Public Works Department has instructed all concerned agencies to implement urgent measures to ensure smooth and safe traffic movement along the Mumbai-Goa Highway during the 10-day Ganeshotsav festival. The directive places particular focus on key infrastructure points including the Nagothane flyover and the ongoing bypass projects at Mangaon and Indapur.
Public Works Minister Shivendraraje Bhosale reviewed highway preparedness during a meeting held in Mahad. He directed officials to ensure that light vehicle traffic passing over the Nagothane flyover remains uninterrupted throughout the festive period, while mandating continuous monitoring of the situation and the submission of daily reports on traffic management and safety.
Addressing pending infrastructure, Bhosale instructed authorities to complete the Mangaon and Indapur bypass works along the Panvel-Indapur and Indapur-Zarap stretches within their stipulated deadlines. He emphasised that high construction quality must be strictly maintained and that active construction work should not create unnecessary disruption or inconvenience for motorists heading towards the Konkan region.
To support the large influx of devotees, the minister ordered the setup of dedicated facility centres at identified locations along the highway corridor. These centres are required to provide travellers with clean drinking water, electricity, emergency medical assistance, and proper sanitation facilities, including an adequate number of mobile toilets.
Officials have also been tasked with identifying alternative diversion routes to prevent bottlenecks. Bhosale ordered that internal roads designated as diversions must be fully repaired and restored to motorable condition before the start of the festival. Bhosale stressed that all agencies must coordinate and execute preventive steps in advance so devotees and motorists face no hardships.
Bhosale also indicated that the issue of granting a toll waiver during Ganeshotsav will be raised directly with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
The review meeting in Mahad was attended by Raigad Guardian Minister Bharat Gogawale, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare, MLA Aniket Tatkare, Raigad District Collector Kishan Jawale, and Superintendent of Police Anchal Dalal, among other senior officials. Gogawale and Tatkare likewise directed departments to maintain close coordination on traffic flow, road safety, and civic amenities.
