Rabid Stray Dog Bites 130 People in Kalyan West, Hospitalises 25

A rabid stray dog attacked and bit nearly 130 people over a seven-hour period in Kalyan West, requiring hospitalisation for 25 victims and leaving an 11-year-old girl severely injured, civic health officials said on Monday. The attacks centered around the Sandeep Hotel area and impacted surrounding local neighborhoods.

According to Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation (KDMC) health officials and eyewitnesses, the ordeal began around 2 pm on Sunday. The aggressive canine began lunging at passersby, riders on two-wheelers, and passengers in auto-rickshaws across the Sandeep Hotel area. Eyewitnesses noted that the dog pounced on individuals walking along roads and narrow alleys from behind.

The series of attacks resulted in 25 victims being hospitalised, while an 11-year-old girl who suffered serious injuries required advanced medical care, health officials confirmed.

The terror created widespread panic across several localities in Kalyan West. Residents throughout Birla College Road, the Old RTO Office, and Bhoirwadi remained indoors to stay safe. Families kept children away from playgrounds and outdoor areas for the rest of the day, despite the incident occurring on a Sunday.
