Raj Thackeray Says Mahatma Gandhi Teachings on Questioning Authority Remain Relevant

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray stated on Thursday, October 2, 2026, in Mumbai that Mahatma Gandhi's teachings on questioning authority and standing up for one's conscience remain particularly relevant in the current political climate.
Marking Gandhi’s birth anniversary in a post on X, Thackeray criticised what he described as the increasingly ceremonial nature of tributes paid to national leaders across the country.
The MNS leader argued that remembering the Father of the Nation should extend far beyond merely garlanding statues and marking birth and death anniversaries.
Thackeray called for moving beyond these purely symbolic commemorations to actively upholding the democratic principles of questioning authority and listening to moral conscience.
