Ramdas Athawale Demands Sedition Charges Against Opponents of Reservation System

Union minister Ramdas Athawale has demanded that sedition charges be invoked against people who oppose the reservation system or call for its abolition, arguing that quotas are a protected constitutional right.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Mumbai, Athawale addressed recent pushback against the quota policy, stating that some groups and individuals have been actively demanding that reservation be abolished. He asserted that the system cannot be removed because it remains firmly safeguarded under the Constitution.

Athawale highlighted recent demonstrations against reservation, pointing specifically to a gathering at Delhi's Jantar Mantar that brought the issue back into public focus.

He also alleged that campaigns seeking changes to or the complete removal of the reservation system were actively circulating across social media platforms.

Reiterating his stance, Athawale maintained that constitutional protections must be upheld, calling for sedition charges against those campaigning against the quota framework.
