Ranveer Singh Exits Don 3 After Three Years Of Pre-Production Development

Actor Ranveer Singh has abruptly exited the upcoming film 'Don 3' in December 2025, following nearly three years of active development tailored around him. The sudden departure has raised significant questions and speculation within Mumbai's film industry circles regarding the project's future.

The collaboration, which lasted approximately 32 months, was far from being in its early planning stages. The project was deep in pre-production, with significant financial investments already made and multiple departments actively working on the film.

According to industry reports, production house Excel Entertainment began laying the groundwork to position Singh as the new face of the 'Don' franchise in April 2023. The production house financed and shot an announcement teaser before releasing it publicly on August 9, 2023. The reveal marked a major shift for the franchise, as Singh was set to step into a role previously associated with Shah Rukh Khan.

Despite mixed reactions from fans at the time, the makers remained committed to their vision, planning the long-term campaign around Singh. The collaboration progressed steadily, with Singh signing a term sheet outlining the principal terms of his association in August 2024.

Creative discussions continued, and the latest version of the script was shared with Singh's team in March 2025. By August 2025, Excel Entertainment shared a comprehensive schedule with the actor's team, which included action workshops, costume fittings, look tests, and plans for principal photography. Filming was scheduled to commence in January 2026 and run through July 2026.

Singh also engaged in physical preparation for the role, participating in action training sessions between November 3 and November 12, 2025, with related expenses covered by the production. However, the partnership came to an abrupt end the following month, leaving the future of the franchise uncertain.
