Record 2.45 Lakh Students Register for Maharashtra Engineering Admissions

MUMBAI — A record 2,45,526 students completed their registration and document verification for engineering admissions in Maharashtra, marking a significant milestone for the 2026-27 academic year. The registration window for the Centralised Admission Process officially closed on Sunday, setting the stage for intensified competition for seats across the state.
According to data released by the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test cell, this year's figure represents a substantial increase in applicants compared to previous years. The state has seen a steady rise in interest in engineering courses, culminating in this record-breaking registration cycle.
Specifically, the number of confirmed applicants has risen by 20,083 compared to last year's admissions cycle. During the previous year, a total of 2,25,443 students had registered for the process.
The upward trend is even more pronounced when compared to the 2024-25 academic year. In 2024-25, the total number of registrations stood at 1,92,398. This means that the current registration figure represents an increase of 53,128 students over a two-year period, reflecting a sharp surge in demand for engineering education in the region.
During the initial phase of the registration process, a total of 2,66,024 candidates had registered. However, only those who completed the subsequent document verification and confirmed their application forms are eligible to proceed. Ultimately, 2,45,526 candidates completed this verification process. The Maharashtra State CET cell has clarified that only candidates who have successfully completed this verification and confirmation process will be considered for the upcoming Centralised Admission Process rounds.
This sharp rise in the number of applicants is expected to have a direct impact on admission cut-offs. Officials anticipate that cut-offs will rise, particularly in highly sought-after branches. These popular fields include computer engineering, information technology, artificial intelligence, data science, and allied courses.
On the other hand, the surge in applications has brought welcome relief to local engineering colleges. In recent years, many of these institutions have struggled with a high number of vacant seats. Falling enrolment had made it increasingly difficult for several colleges to sustain courses that suffered from poor demand. The influx of new applicants is expected to help address these vacancy issues and provide much-needed support to these institutions.
