Revenue Minister Assures Land Decision For 250 Labour Families In Mankhurd East

On Thursday, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule assured that the state government will take a positive decision regarding the rehabilitation and housing of nearly 250 labour families residing in Mandala, Mankhurd (East) in Mumbai. The decision, which will be made within the framework of existing rules, concerns a proposed self-redevelopment housing project for these affected families.
The assurance followed a meeting where senior social activist Medha Patkar met with Revenue Minister Bawankule on Thursday. During this meeting, Patkar submitted a detailed representation concerning the self-redevelopment housing project. She highlighted that the labour families have been living in the Mandala area of Mankhurd (East) for several years. Consequently, she urged the state government to make an immediate decision regarding their rehabilitation and housing.
To support the case for the families, Patkar presented various documents to the Revenue Minister. These included relevant land records, official correspondence with different government departments, and details of previous administrative actions that have been taken in relation to this matter over the years.
A key part of the representation was a request for the transfer of a specific government land parcel. Patkar requested the transfer of 6,077.55 square metres of government land, stating that this land parcel is essential to implement the proposed self-redevelopment housing project. The project is designed to secure housing for the 250 economically weaker families.
After receiving the representation, Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule directed government officials to thoroughly verify all the submitted documents. He also instructed them to examine both the legal and administrative aspects of the case. Bawankule assured that the state government would take the necessary action in accordance with the law to ensure that the eligible beneficiaries receive justice.
