Rock Falls from Bhayandar Metro Work Site onto Vehicle Carrying School Students

A major safety concern emerged at an ongoing Metro construction site in the Golden Nest area of Bhayandar after a large rock fell onto the road during construction work on Monday, August 17.

The rock fell from a considerable height directly onto the road below while work was in progress. Pieces of the falling rock struck a vehicle carrying school students. No students or other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.

The event has raised serious questions regarding the safety protocols and arrangements in place at the Metro construction site, particularly for motorists and pedestrians travelling along the stretch.

The incident follows a separate mishap in Chembur, Mumbai, approximately a month ago, where a falling tree branch struck a school van and resulted in the death of a student. The recent occurrence in Mira Road has renewed concerns over the safety of school children travelling near active construction corridors.

Following the incident, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) took an aggressive stance on the matter. MNS leader Sandeep Rane demanded that the contractor responsible be booked and insisted that construction work should not be permitted to proceed until comprehensive safety measures are put in place.

The falling rock has intensified local apprehension over whether adequate precautionary steps are being implemented to safeguard commuters and residents near the ongoing Metro project.
