Rohit Shetty Receives Rs 20 Crore Extortion Threat Call in Juhu

The Mumbai Crime Branch has launched an investigation after Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty received a threat call demanding ₹20 crore in extortion on Saturday morning. The threat has heightened security concerns for the director, whose residence in Juhu, located near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk, was targeted in a shooting incident earlier this year.
According to police sources, the unidentified caller contacted Shetty directly on his mobile phone. The individual demanded the ₹20 crore sum and warned of serious consequences if the filmmaker failed to pay the extortion money. Following the call, Shetty’s team reported the matter to the authorities, prompting immediate action from the Mumbai Crime Branch.
Investigators are currently working to trace the location of the mobile number used to make the threat. While the identity of the caller has not yet been established, police are investigating potential links to the Bishnoi gang. The gang has been linked to multiple recent extortion and intimidation cases involving high-profile individuals.
A Mumbai Crime Branch officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the threat call had been received. The officer described the matter as highly sensitive, noting that active efforts are underway to identify the suspect and establish the origin of the phone call.
This is not the first security threat directed at the filmmaker. In February, five bullets were fired outside Shetty’s Juhu home near Hasya Kalakar Mehmood Chowk. The Lawrence gang later claimed responsibility for the shooting. The shooter, identified as bike-borne Deepak Sharma, was subsequently arrested in Agra.
Following that incident, the Mumbai Crime Branch filed a comprehensive 1,624-page charge sheet in April. The charge sheet named 15 accused individuals, while Pravin Lonkar and Aarzo Bishnoi were declared absconders. The current investigation is ongoing as police seek to determine if the new extortion call is connected to the same group.
