Rs 1-Crore Bridge Project Stalled in Dahanu's Dhundalwadi Over Lack of Funds

A team from the zilla parishad inspected a site in Dhodipada in Dhundalwadi, Dahanu taluka, on Thursday following an incident where a family was forced to wade through a swollen river to carry out the last rites of a relative.
Officials from the zilla parishad’s construction department stated that a bridge has already been proposed at the location. However, the Rs 1-crore project remains stalled due to a lack of funds. Officials added that efforts would now be made to secure the necessary funding and move the construction project forward.
The civic issue came to light after a member of the Mukane family passed away on Tuesday. Due to the absence of a bridge over the flooded river, relatives had to carry the body directly through the water to reach the local cremation ground.
Around 150 families reside in Dhodipada in Dhundalwadi. Although a gravel road currently leads to the cremation ground, it requires villagers to take a detour of approximately 1.5 kilometres.
Residents of the area have long been demanding a bridge across the river to provide a shorter and safer route to the cremation ground, especially during periods when the river swells.
