Sachin Ahir Directs BMC to Resolve Civic and Infrastructure Issues in Worli

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Sachin Ahir has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate steps to address basic civic issues faced by residents in Worli, even as several major development projects proceed across the area.
Ahir held a review meeting with BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide at his chamber to discuss various pending issues. Following the discussion, Bhide instructed civic officials to examine the matters raised and initiate the necessary measures at the earliest.
The review covered a wide range of civic concerns, including healthcare, traffic congestion, solid waste management, parking facilities, and the connectivity of flyovers and transport infrastructure in the locality.
Highlighting the growing population of Worli, Ahir proposed the establishment of a free maternity hospital and a specialised children's hospital on BMC land situated at Dhobighat. He also called for the Mata Ramai Ambedkar Hindu Crematorium to be made fully operational and requested immediate repairs to its smoke-exhaust system to avoid causing inconvenience to nearby residents.
On the transport and pedestrian front, Ahir directed officials to clear road obstructions near the Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station and ensure footpaths are levelled for pedestrians. He also called for the removal of construction debris near the Nehru Science Centre Metro station, pointing out that the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had not yet handed over specific spaces to the BMC despite completing Metro-related works.
Additionally, Ahir raised concerns regarding the maintenance of footpaths and gardens along the Coastal Road where beautification is underway, emphasising the need for proper upkeep due to heavy foot traffic. He demanded the urgent completion of the link connecting the Saat Rasta Monorail bridge to the Metro station to ease commuter travel.
Ahir also asked the civic body to reduce parking charges at municipal parking lots and introduce discounted monthly passes for local residents. The meeting included discussions on a proposed grand memorial for Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj in Mumbai, with Ahir stating that Worli's development must prioritise resident interests and protect rehabilitation.
