Sachin Ahir Leads Clean-Up Drive in Worli Koliwada, Announces Year-Long Plan

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir led a cleanliness and beach clean-up drive at Worli Koliwada and the adjoining seashore in Mumbai on Tuesday, following grievances raised by local residents over severe garbage accumulation and neglected sanitation.

During the drive, Ahir announced that the initiative would not remain a single-day event. He stated that a comprehensive strategy will be established to ensure the locality is maintained throughout the entire year.

“We will not stop at cleaning the beach today. We will prepare a special year-long plan to keep Worli clean and beautiful and ensure that this campaign continues consistently throughout the year,” Ahir said.

The civic intervention followed a recent visit to the neighbourhood by Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde during Narali Purnima celebrations last week. While interacting with Shinde, Worli Koliwada residents flagged persistent problems regarding waste accumulation, poor sanitation infrastructure, and potential health hazards arising from unhygienic conditions.

Following those interactions, Shinde instructed Shiv Sena office-bearers and local workers to inspect the area and take corrective action, which resulted in party teams mobilising for the clean-up operation on Tuesday.

The party's direct action in the locality has also sparked questions regarding the absence of Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray during the ongoing sanitation challenges faced by residents in his assembly constituency.

Alongside the cleanliness campaign, Ahir addressed political concerns regarding voter lists, criticising Opposition allegations about the purported deletion of around two crore names from electoral rolls. Ahir questioned the conduct of Opposition-appointed Booth Level Officers during the Special Intensive Revision process, noting that political parties should actively verify rolls and assist affected citizens with the official restoration procedure.
