Sachin Ahir Reviews MHADA Housing and BDD Chawl Redevelopment Issues
Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir held a review meeting at Vidhan Bhavan on Wednesday to address various pending rehabilitation and redevelopment issues concerning housing societies linked to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority across Mumbai, including localities such as Worli, Lower Parel, Byculla, and Tagore Nagar.
During the meeting, Ahir directed attending officials to listen directly to the grievances of residents and take positive decisions to resolve their pending matters. A major portion of the discussion centered on the Bombay Development Department chawl redevelopment project and the procedural difficulties faced by citizens.
Specifically, the meeting addressed the difficulties residents have encountered regarding the allotment of houses through the lottery system under the BDD Chawl redevelopment project. Attendees also examined demands for alternative accommodation raised by families from the Worli BDD Chawls, alongside the concerns of citizens currently residing in transit camps.
Individual housing society matters across central Mumbai were also evaluated in detail. The discussions covered the provision of alternative flats to 10 residents of Saraswati Building in Lower Parel, as well as representations submitted by Tanwade and 30 other residents of Shivshakti Park on N. M. Joshi Marg.
Additionally, officials reviewed a proposal to include Geetanjali Building in Byculla into a cluster of five MHADA buildings. The meeting also addressed the rehabilitation of Higher Income Group and Lower Income Group residents of the SVP Nagar Society, as well as granting permanent ownership rights to families belonging to the Gharakul Society in Tagore Nagar.
Further redevelopment issues concerning buildings in Abhyudaya Nagar, Rustom Tadiwala Chawl, and Shahsadan Society were also taken up for consideration. The review was attended by MHADA Vice-President and Chief Executive Officer Sanjeev Jaiswal, Mumbai Building Repair and Reconstruction Board Chief Officer Milind Shambharkar, Mumbai Board Chief Officer Milind Borikar, other department officials, and representatives of the concerned housing societies.
