Sacred Heart Church in Santacruz West celebrates 90th anniversary
Sacred Heart Church, located in Santacruz West, Mumbai, officially marked its 90th anniversary on June 14, celebrating nine decades of faith, service, and community presence. The landmark jubilee celebrations successfully combined traditional religious observances with a wide range of social events, bringing together more than 400 community members, including local parishioners, priests, and religious sisters.
The day's festivities began with a solemn holy mass led by Cardinal Oswald Gracias, who acted as the main celebrant for the milestone occasion. As part of the liturgical gathering, Cardinal Gracias unveiled a series of upcoming activities under the banner of "Festa de Sacred Heart 2026", marking the beginning of a new chapter of parish initiatives.
Following the mass, the parish hall and grounds hosted several community events designed to appeal to parishioners of all ages. A Bingo Night was organized in the parish hall, drawing a large crowd. Meanwhile, the "Game of Hearts" programme offered outdoor games, water games, and other interactive activities specifically planned to encourage participation across different generations.
The anniversary also featured a strong focus on local culinary traditions with the launch of "90 Years of Flavours". This unique food festival showcased a variety of community recipes, with food courts serving local delicacies that highlighted the culinary talents of the Santacruz West parishioners.
The grand feast-day gathering served as a key highlight of the jubilee, providing a platform for fellowship and cultural expression. Children and adults from the parish participated in an array of stage performances, including dances, songs, and theatrical acts. Local priests and religious sisters also contributed to the festive atmosphere by taking part in special entertainment programmes.
According to parish records, the 90th-anniversary celebrations focused heavily on spiritual renewal, youth engagement, and cultural programmes. The event succeeded in uniting the diverse parish community to celebrate ninety years of shared history and look forward to future milestones.
