Salman Khan gets clearance for six-storey house in Chimbai Bandra after security threats

Actor Salman Khan and his family have received clearance to construct a new six-storey sea-facing residential building in the Chimbai locality of Bandra, Mumbai. The approval, granted by the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA) on June 16, comes as the actor plans to move from his long-time residence at Galaxy Apartments following security threats and a shooting incident in 2024.
The new property is located in a quiet by-lane off the main road in Chimbai, offering improved security for the actor. The plot is owned by Khan's mother, Salma. It previously housed a dilapidated two-storey residential structure dating prior to 1956, which was originally owned by Mary Clotilda Baptista. The Khan family purchased the plot in 2011 and subsequently demolished the old structure.
The transition follows a security scare in 2024 when two bike-borne men, allegedly from the Bishnoi gang, fired four bullets at the flat of Khan's parents, located one floor above his at Galaxy Apartments. Khan has lived at Galaxy Apartments since 1974. Following the shooting, the actor installed bullet-proof glass on his balcony, halted his regular public greetings to fans, and was provided with Y-plus security.
The new ground-plus-stilt-plus-six-storey residential building will be constructed under regulation 33(16) of the Development Control and Promotional Regulations 2034. It will consume a Floor Space Index (FSI) of 1.459.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued the Intimation of Disapproval (IOD) permission for the project on October 28, 2025. Sach Developers has been appointed to construct the new building, which will have a total construction area of 1014.11 square metres.
The development plans also feature a 6.01-metre-wide approach road connecting the property to the municipal road. According to documents submitted to the MCZMA, no new trees will be felled or translocated for the project. Instead, indigenous trees will be planted along the periphery of the plot and in the project's recreation ground area.
A representative for the actor declined to comment on the development.
