Security Guard Catches Passenger With 338 Grams of Suspected Marijuana at Airport Metro

A passenger carrying approximately 338 grams of suspected marijuana was apprehended at the Airport Metro station in Andheri after a vigilant security guard detected the contraband during routine baggage screening, officials reported on June 27. The suspect, who was attempting to board a Ghatkopar-bound Mumbai Metro One train, was subsequently handed over to the Andheri Police.
The incident unfolded when Lady Security Guard Kanchan Pandey noticed suspicious contents in the passenger's bag while it was being scanned through the station's security screening system. A subsequent physical inspection of the baggage led to the recovery of nine packets containing the suspected marijuana.
According to Mumbai Metro One, the passenger attempted to flee the station after being questioned by security. However, Pandey immediately alerted other security personnel on duty. The team chased and successfully apprehended the accused passenger before he could escape the premises.
The security operation was carried out by a team consisting of Security Officer A. Kamble, MSF ASG Avinas, Supervisor Wasim Tadvi, and other on-duty security personnel.
Following the apprehension, the security team handed over the accused passenger, along with the nine packets of suspected narcotic substance, to the Andheri Police. The Andheri Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident. Further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the source and the intended destination of the seized contraband.
Shyamantak Choudhury, Chief Executive Officer of Mumbai Metro One, commended the security team for their vigilance and prompt response.
