Sessions Court Frames Charges in Saif Ali Khan Bandra Residence Attack Case

The sessions court on Friday framed charges against Shariful Fakir for allegedly breaking into Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Bandra and attacking him with a knife, paving the way for the trial to proceed.

Fakir, identified as a Bangladeshi national, has been charged with dacoity, house trespass, illegally entering India, and residing in the country under a fictitious identity.

Following the framing of charges, Fakir told the court that he had not been provided with the chargesheet and related case materials. In response, the court instructed the prosecution to supply him with all relevant documents and records.

According to the police, Fakir entered Khan’s 12th-floor residence in a Bandra building through a bathroom on January 16 last year. Police stated that he climbed the exterior of the building and entered the apartment without prior knowledge of who lived there, subsequently demanding money and holding the family at knifepoint.

A complaint filed by a staff nurse employed at the home stated that Fakir first entered the bedroom of Khan’s son, Jehangir, where the nurse confronted him. Fakir allegedly attacked her and demanded Rs 1 crore. When Khan woke up and stepped in to intervene, Fakir allegedly attacked him with a knife.

Khan required emergency surgery following the incident and was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he remained for five days before being discharged. Fakir managed to escape during the altercation and was arrested on January 19 last year.

Fakir’s bail application remains pending before the sessions court. His legal representatives have argued that the arrest was unlawful because investigating authorities failed to provide him with a copy of the grounds of arrest prior to detaining him, which they contended is a mandatory legal requirement.
