Sevadan Arogya Foundation To Build Patient Relative Housing At Six Maharashtra Hospitals

The Maharashtra government has selected the Ahmedabad-based Sevadan Arogya Foundation to build, operate, and maintain residential facilities for patients' relatives at six government medical colleges and affiliated hospitals.

According to a Government Resolution issued on Monday, these new facilities will be established at government medical institutions in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolhapur, and Yavatmal.

The project is designed to assist the relatives of patients who are undergoing treatment at these major state-run healthcare centres. To ensure the housing remains accessible, the residential facilities will be built and run under a strict "no-profit, no-loss" model.

As part of the development plan, the state government will execute a formal Memorandum of Understanding with the Sevadan Arogya Foundation. This agreement will grant the foundation the authority to run the facilities for a period of 49 years.

To support the construction of the units, the land required for the project will be leased to the Ahmedabad-based organisation. The lease will be offered at a nominal annual rent of Re 1.

According to the Government Resolution, there is also a provision for extending the partnership. The lease may be renewed once for an additional period of up to 49 years. Any such extension will be processed in accordance with the prevailing government policy at the time of renewal.

However, the state government will maintain strict oversight over the properties. The Government Resolution explicitly states that the ownership, possession, and control of the land will remain with the Maharashtra government throughout the lease period.
