Seven Thane District Tourists Missing in Nepal Floods, Administration Sets Up Helplines
Severe flooding caused by the swelling Bhotekoshi River in Nepal's Rasuwa district has stranded several tourists and Kailash Mansarovar pilgrims from Thane district, with at least seven residents from areas including Naupada, Balkum, Kalyan, and Dombivli currently reported uncontactable.
Thane District Collector Dr. Srikrishna Panchal confirmed that the local administration is maintaining continuous coordination with authorities in Nepal to track and ensure the safety of all trapped travelers. Dr. Panchal urged citizens to avoid paying attention to rumors and to reach out directly to official emergency channels for verified updates.
While search and rescue coordination continues, some tourists have reached safety. Rekha Satish Patankar and Satish Patankar from Samata Nagar in Thane, along with 27 other tourists, successfully reached a migration center located near the China border.
However, seven travelers from the district remain untraceable. Samir Joshi and Aparna Joshi, residents of Naupada, lost contact on August 26 after reaching the Nepal-China border. Similarly, Sanjay Rajmal Patil and Nalini Sanjay Patil from Kalyan, who were staying at Hotel Shanker in Kathmandu via Kerung as part of a 31-member tourist group, have been listed as untraceable by the Nepal Tourist Board.
Three other individuals from the region are currently missing: Rajnish Raghunath Natu from Balkum, Bhand Yashas from Vashi, and Sunil Sudarshan Subhedar from Dombivli.
The Thane district administration has requested family members of stranded or missing tourists to register their details with the District Emergency Operations Center immediately. Families are asked to provide the missing person's name, mobile number, last known location or hotel name in Nepal, tour operator information, and details of co-travelers.
