Shiv Sena (UBT) Criticises Centre Over 7.8 Per Cent GDP Growth Celebration

The Shiv Sena (UBT) in Mumbai has criticised the Central government over its celebration of India’s reported 7.8 per cent quarterly Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth, asserting that headline economic figures fail to reflect ground realities faced by ordinary citizens.

In an editorial published in the party mouthpiece ‘Saamana’ on Wednesday, the Uddhav Thackeray-led party took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media post highlighting the quarterly GDP statistics. The editorial described the administration's celebratory response as “grandstanding” and questioned whether strong economic growth figures were resulting in tangible improvements in daily living conditions.

The party argued that the reported economic performance does not align with the challenges experienced by the public. It cited persistent concerns over rising inflation, joblessness, agricultural distress, and a falling rupee.

According to the editorial, these ongoing economic pressures indicate that widespread financial difficulties continue despite the headline growth numbers highlighted by the government.
